“When I arrived at Hospitality House, I was amazed!”
When Barbara’s brother, Ted, badly injured himself in a fall, she immediately flew to Oklahoma so she could care for him as he healed. “I planned to stay with him day and night while he recovered,” Barbara shared. “I made no plans for transportation or housing. I just wanted to be with my brother.”
But Ted’s condition quickly deteriorated so drastically that he couldn’t even drink from a straw. Severely dehydrated and very ill, he was transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa for critical life-saving care—leaving Barbara stranded, distraught, and stressed about basic needs like transportation while she was alone and so far from home.
Then, she heard about the lodging, meals, and transportation made available to her by the generous donors who support Hospitality House of Tulsa. “When I arrived at Hospitality House, I was amazed,” Barbara told us. “The volunteers are personally interested in making my journey successful in every way. The drivers have been a special blessing, and I feel so safe here at the house and while traveling.”
Every year, thousands of people suddenly find themselves far from home to lovingly care for family in Tulsa as they’re treated for life-threatening illnesses. Many travel as much as 200 miles or even more, which can cost hundreds of dollars in gas alone. Their limited budgets make it nearly impossible to afford safe housing, food, and transportation while they spend precious time with their loved ones.
